The Data Protection Act 2018
The Data Protection Act 2018 regulates the processing of information, relating to individuals including the obtaining, holding, use or disclosure of such information.
The Act places a legal responsibility on South Tyneside Council Housing Services to ensure that data collected and processed receives the highest level of protection.
The Act also provides you with certain rights to ensure that data held is accurate and up to date.
What happens with the information you give us
We treat any information given to us by a customer, applicant or third person as confidential.
In some circumstances we may exchange information with other organisations, such as the Benefits Agency.
We will not use the information you provide us with for any purpose other than the reason you have given it to us for and for improving the service we provide for our customers.
We do not give or share information with external companies for marketing purposes.
How we store information about you
We keep both manual and computerised databases.
The way in which we keep and use that information complies with the Data Protection Act 2018.

Every member our team is advised at the start of their employment that information gained whilst working for us must not be used or passed on to any third parties other than in the proper performance of their duties.
